Ibn Jinni’s Position on the Arabic Dialects in his Book Al-Khasais (Morphological Issues as a Model)

Author: Dr. Mansour Musleh Mansour Hassoun

Abstrak:

Dialects consider a source of linguistic research for Arabs, a supporter of their linguistic thinking, and one of their means of linguistic argument, as linguistic performance varies -at its different levels- between different environments in an attempt to draw a linguistic personality through some linguistic characteristics and speech habits. Linguists took care of the study of dialectal phenomena, but they did not single out independent studies for it, so their opinions came scattered in their books. Ibn Jinni is one of the most prominent linguists who cared for the dialects or languages of the Arabs, and singled out chapters for them in his book Al-Khasa’is, which is considered one of the most precious and honorable Arabic books and the best book of his writings. In his book Al-Khasa’is, he paid much care for dialects rather than the other linguistic. Accordingly, he singled out for them chapters where he monitored the phonetic, inflectional, grammatical, and semantic dialectal phenomena. The research aims to analysis the declension items in which Ibn Jinni used the dialects as an evidence, supporting his doctrine, and his uniqueness from others in his invocation of them, especially in the issues that others considered linguistic anomalies.
